Mommy tactics: to spout or not to spout…

My husband and I do our research before introducing something new into our baby girls’ life. Be it food, diapers, lotion, shampoos or bottles, we research and evaluate before deciding what to buy.

Today, I want to tell you about something I stumbled across accidentally. My baby was ready to go off the bottle and we were beginning to research sippy cups. In fact, we decided to purchase the Nuby no-spill trainer sippy cup. We used it for a couple of weeks until yours truly (who has a problem when it comes to people watching) was waiting at a doctor’s office and saw a toddler drinking out of a spoutless sippy cup. I was intrigued but I didn’t get a chance to approach the mom to ask her about the brand. Instead, Google came to my rescue.

A quick search gave me the answers I was looking for. This magical sippy cup was actually the Munchkin 360 trainer cup. Not only was the spoutless sippy cup spill proof, it had insanely high ratings everywhere I checked and my research showed that it helps support normal muscle development in a child’s mouth. Lots of studies indicate spouts are not good for teeth development and may even result in tooth decay.

I have to admit, my daughter has thrown it across the room and although it didn’t make a huge mess, hitting the ground at just the right angle did result in a spill. However, that being said, if it was casually knocked over, it definitely will not spill. I absolutely love it. She loves it too. It is easy to drink from. The 360 degree edge means that she can drink from any side. All that is involved is tilting the cup and sucking on the edge. The cup automatically seals when she stops drinking. Be sure to take it apart and wash all four pieces regularly. The sippy cup is BPA-free and top rack dishwasher safe.
